On day two of the 2024 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, TVO Founder and President Jim Maher joined experts from across the hydrogen value chain for a panel discussion sponsored by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers that investigated the challenges and potential benefits of hydrogen energy production.
Nikhil Joshi, CTO at Verde CO2 LLC moderated the panel, titled, “Riding the Waves of Innovation: Exploring Offshore Hydrogen Carriers for a Sustainable Future.” Puneet Sharma, Founder of CyaNH3, Carl Fischer, co-founder and CEO of sH&Yp BV, and Henrik Larsen, Vice President, Clean Ammonia and Hydrogen – KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions, rounded out the group.
Approximately 100 OTC attendees participated in this session to hear the panelists share their ideas about requirements for building a sustainable value chain for offshore hydrogen transportation and evaluate some of the technologies currently being considered as solutions.
“The energy industry is becoming increasingly interested in developing renewable resources, and hydrogen energy has garnered a lot of attention, in part because of its potential use in electrification,” Maher said. “For hydrogen energy production to be viable, we will have to develop technologies that will not only enable sustainable production, but also simplify transportation and distribution. The good news is that our track record as an industry demonstrates that we have the engineering expertise and the ingenuity to solve difficult technical problems.”
