Our recent article in World Oil magazine details the design and installation of TVO’s tethered BOP (TBOP) system to enable a dynamically positioned (DP) deepwater rig to drill safely in shallow water in the Gulf of America (Gulf of Mexico)
The article explains how TVO’s system introduces robustness into the riser, BOP, and wellhead structural system to prevent damage that could lead to high-consequence conditions by applying lateral resistance to the top of the BOP.
The results from an installation illustrate how this innovative system improved safety by increasing the watch circle to allow more time for an emergency disconnection in the event of a drift-off.

In addition to allowing a DP rig to drill in shallow water, the company’s industry-leading technology has been applied globally to arrest the motion of the BOP stack above the wellhead in deepwater operations to reduce wellhead cyclic stresses and enhance fatigue life.
